Reducing Our Carbon Footprint Through Solar Power

We have a new tenant, but it’s not one you will see while walking through the mall. This is because the new addition sits out of sight.

We installed a 6 294.4m2, 1 megawatt solar plant on our rooftop. Harnessing the sun’s rays and converting this to useable energy, this solar installation is capable of generating 5 382 kilowatt-hours (KWH) per day, which is equivalent to powering 179 houses per day and 1 964 539 KWH per year. The mall’s carbon footprint will be offset by a whopping 2.3 tons of Carbon Dioxide each year, in addition to several initiatives already in place to reduce electricity consumption.

The solar plant is made up of 2 409 monocrystalline photovoltaic (PV) solar panels, 10 inverters, and is connected to the national grid. The system is able to produce 8 – 9% of the mall’s energy requirement.
