LIBERTY PROMENADE AWARDS SIX LOCAL SCHOOLS WITH THEIR SHARE OF R60 000
As a community-centric mall, Liberty Promenade is committed to advocating youth development in the Mitchells Plain community, and uniting for a stronger tomorrow for all; through the #CreateTomorrow campaign, launched in May 2020 with its focus on rebuilding, uplifting and upskilling for a more inclusive future. On Thursday, the 11th March 2021, Liberty Promenade handed over cheques to six local schools, who were awarded their share of R60 000 in prize money to improve facilities. These were the winning schools from the annual Liberty Promenade #NextGeneration competition, which took place in the latter part of last year.
Although 2020 was an unprecedented time globally, Liberty Promenade adjusted the mechanics of the annual competition, to ensure that local schools could still participate, despite lockdown restrictions. Each school submitted a short video clip highlighting their particular needs; and detailing how they would make use of the R10 000 prize money, should they win. In addition to the R10 000 prize money awarded to each school, Liberty Promenade awarded R4 000 in gift cards, to the individuals who assisted the schools in compiling their videos.
The students and teachers displayed such enthusiasm and resilience in each entry video; and it was evident that despite the challenges they faced in 2020, their spirits remained high. The winning schools were announced in December 2020.
