Let Hope Fly

October is Mental Health awareness month and every year Liberty Promenade, in association with Cape Mental Health, hosts an awesome kiting experience for families, in solidarity with the rise of mental illness in our communities.

What Is It?

The annual Community Fly will be held on Thursday 24 October at the Supa Quick parking area between 14h30 and 16h30. This event is free of charge and open to the public. Everyone is welcome to fly kites with the international and local kite experts who will be in town for the Cape Town International Kite Festival. Guests may bring their own kites or borrow one from the team.

This year, Liberty Promenade introduced a kite decorating competition for kids to complement the excitement of the
Community Fly, where amazing prizes were given away. Kids attended Liberty Promenade’s exciting kite decorating workshops on 19 October, where they enjoyed decorating their very own kites using paint, recycled paper, and various other craft materials.

“Raising awareness for Mental Health and Mental Illness has remained an important initiative and we are excited to have hosted a kite decorating competition this year alongside the Community Fly. Creativity and self-expression encourage a healthy mind and boosts self-confidence in children. Mental Health is something to be considered from a young age and we need to do everything we can to ensure our youth are stimulated in positive ways,” says Brenda Bibby, General Manager at Liberty Promenade.
